I came in late to the Council meeting

Maybe someone can explain to me why we hired(?) a principal engineer for $31,000?

There are those that seem to be in a snit over John Kak working a few hours on Sunday (or maybe more, how do I know) at approximately $12 and change per hour.  They are calling it transparency.    I understand that but I'm not sweating $37/week.  I'm more interested in the $31,000.

Did they explain what the principal engineer does and why we need it now?  Is it going to save us money?  I may have missed it, as I was late.

If you're dog isn't licensed, run to the Boro Hall and get your license.  They approved Dog Census Takers.

Councilman Leitner remarked that possibly the Council would not have to approve any more furlough days and there might not be any lay-offs or demotions.  I'm assuming they found more money somewhere.  A $50 increase is all I want this year.

I think Empty Wallet got up at the Council meeting last night and spoke.  This person also wrote a letter to the editor last year that was non-sensical.  He accused David Maffei of working 0 hours on one of his positions and being paid for working 0 hours.  If the man would realize, he was at a Council meeting last night where Mr. Maffei was sitting on Council, after his regular day hours.  I believe he is also on the Planning Board.

Mr. Maffei answered this man.  Just my two cents:  He was never going to be able to rid this town of an incompetent CFO.  Bill Fearon broke the tie and voted to keep her even with all the charges against her.  Rogers and Block were chummy.  Where do you think all those numbers that Rogers threw around at her roundtable meetings came from?  They came from someone who, it seemed to me, couldn't add 2 and 2.  If Maffei wanted to remain employed with this town, he had to suffer through it in silence.

Hopefully now we have a good CFO.  I believe she already found one of Block's mistakes that even Fallon, our Auditors, couldn't find.  That was the money put into the water/sewer account that we didn't have.  Thus, we now have a surcharge for 2 quarters.

Oh, those seniors that make under $10,000 (I think that's the amount) will get a 50% break on the surcharge.  That does not include those seniors getting the PTR.

We are going to have 2 Blues and Jazz shows in the Riverfront park on August 4th and August 18th.  The group handling it is the same one that started the Red Bank Jazz festival.

Now I'm going back to the Casey Anthony coverage.

The engineer wasn't a hire, it was setting a salary should we be able to hire a someone to replace Mr Sears with someone that can also perform engineering duties, which would net a savings.

If we are setting a separate salary, how is that going to save us money? Are we now paying the $31,000?

The man who spoke up about David Maffei's accountability for what has transpired in this Town was right on the money as far as not "administering" to the affairs of the Borough. Mr. Maffei can't, as he has proven, possibily do both jobs as Administrator & Municipal Clerk! He has ruined this municipality with his lack of leadership and abitity to administer to the business aspect of "running" this town (isn't he suppose to, at the very least, make good suggestions?). He may put the onus of his inablility on previous Mayors & Councils, but SHAME ON THIS CURRENT MAYOR & COUNCIL for letting his inability to guide them as to what should be done to "right" wrongs of the past continue!!! Maffei's attitude and action amounts to, in my opinion, criminal behavior. Let the light of truth shine brightly on Maffei's jobs so he is held accountable and so everyone in this Borough can know what is REALLY going on!!! NOW!!!

Well this comment narrows down who you are.

While Mr. Maffei, as we all have, has his foibles. Not knowing this town like the back of his hand is not one of them. Does he make mistakes? He is human. Has anybody in the Boro Hall made as many mistakes as our former CFO? Doubtful. The Edmunds system was hers. Mr. Maffei didn't use it. So who was it that didn't take out that extra $500,000 or more from the water/sewer when it wasn't appropriated. Isn't it lucky there is always money coming in to those accounts? There would have been some large bounced check fees.

How about Shame on Roger, Depaola and Remig for allowing it to continue. Let's remember all those Sunday morning visits that Judy had with Rogers. Let's remember that short-term CFO that Rogers wanted hired was related to Chief Polhemus and was, I believe, working in Seaside when all the shenanigans were discovered there. Forgive me there is so much duplicity in these towns, I can't keep it all straight.

The Republicans are no slouches when it comes to duplicity

REPUBLICANS STOP TRYING TO REWRITE HISTORY. JUST EMBRACE IT.

Last year Depaola was for lay-offs and furloughs. This year she is not for them. Give me a break!

That's right, she got her whole salary in August. I believe she even gave a large $ amount to her own campaign. That was even after the fact that she was three months behind on her mortgage. How does that work: Can't pay mortgage but loan money to your campaign.

You can't make this stuff up.

Sorry for my curiosity: but the person who got that job as CO was Kevin Burke. It was the same Kevin Burke who is heard talking back at Councilwoman DePaola in an audio download of a Council meeting last year attacking her over shared construction services with the Beach. The audio download can be found at the top left hand corner of the page here:

    http://animallovertoo.com/2010/08/18/everyone-has-to-hear-depaolas-lunatic-rant-at-boro-employees-who-may-be-laid-off.aspx

You might want to read the comments below about Mr. Burke. I guess the $64,000 dollar question for me is . . . who or how he got that job, when as you say the Plumping Inspector had been promised it, and we didn't need to create another position.

Now my money is on one of the Councilman back then. . .

    Maybe he'll volunteer his name?

Like I said, this is a well known story, which was tried to be pointed out at the Council meeting by Mr. Burke in the above audio... Mr. Burke is the Zoning & Code Enforcement Officer, not the Construction Official, so I don't understand your question or logic???

I believe Mr. Gargani is the Plumbing Inspector who was hired for the job of Construction Official...So Spooner, what is your question, again???

And, is this a freakin' guessing game...(ex-councilman or not), who cares who brings the truth to the table. Let's address the problems so we can LOWER PROPERTY TAXES!!!! Isn't that the real issue???

Also, what confounds me is...aren't you, at the very least, concerned about the waste of money by your municipal governing body for all these years or ill advice or lack of advice by your municipal administrator???

I was told very long time ago to never argue with an "idiot"...he will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience!!! GOOD LUCK WITH CORRECTING THIS PROBLEM!!!! All I am trying to do is point it out!

Amen to that. . .this state and it's municipalities are awash in their own stew...

Maffei has done his mea-culpa. . .claiming he's only an administrator, not a public manager. He presents issues, problems to the Council...it's up to them to act?

...as for Lower Property Taxes. . .the bulk of those taxes go to personnel costs. You saw what happened here last year when they lowered property taxes to zero at the expense of raising personnel out of pocket expenses(furloughs).

So this year the employees are back... now using the same borrowed school monies along with other one time gimmicks to save their jobs. . .

The unions and employees control the government...and if you cross them like Rogers did last year. . .out you go!

    ...so your right...GOOD LUCK!
